Cheap Art Workshop

Thursday, October 23rd, 6-8pm
Vital Spaces Annex Gallery
1600 St. Michaels Dr, Santa Fe
Free! Donations accepted.
In the 1980s, Peter Schumann, director of the Bread and Puppet Theater, wrote many manifestos on the subject of Cheap Art in response to Exxon Mobile’s proclamation that “Art is for business.” Schumann says, “Art is not business! Art is food. You can’t eat it, but it feeds you.”
Explore the topic with me, Susie George, a former Bread and Puppet puppeteer,   through discussion, demo and hands on experience. Everyone will have the opportunity to make their own pieces with  found objects and whatever else there is on hand. Feel free to bring items you’re considering throwing away (like cardboard, glossy newspaper ads, old phone book pages etc) that you’d like to turn into art. Long Live Cheap Art!
